India went over the 300-run mark
After the match, India A team skipper Tilak Varma informed that they wanted to bowl first, but as Sri Lanka chose the same after winning the toss, India had to bat.
"Yeah, but honestly, we wanted to bowl first. But you can see the wicket has not changed much. So I think the bowlers today, everyone took that responsibility and bowled well," he said after winning the match.
Batting first, the Tilak Varma-led team secured a total of 319 runs in 50 overs in exchange for 9 wickets. With the bat, Vaibhav Sooryavabshi again returned without fulfilling the expectations. In the ongoing tri-nation series, the southpaw is not delivering in style. Today, the Orange Cap winner in the IPL 2026 season. dismissed for 38 runs off 28 balls.
Three batters, including Varma, Priyansh Arya, and Kumar Kushagra, completed half-centuries each in the match.
It was the bowler who shifted the momentum of the contest
As Varma told, the bowlers today were on song, especially Nishant Sindhu, who was named as the best player of the match for taking 4 wickets in 6.5 overs and with an economy rate of 4.50. Yash Thakur claimed a brace and one each for Anshul Kamboj, Viprag Nigam, Suryansh Shedge, and Anukul Roy. In response to India A's 319, Afghanistan A lost all of their batters for only 218 runs.
"It’s obviously hard to bowl on a surface like that. I just tried to bowl on a good line and length. It’s almost the same there as well. We played on this kind of wicket, so we are used to it. We are just trying to take one game at a time, so we are looking forward to it," Nishant Sandhu, the Player of the Match, said at the presentation ceremony.
