Indian batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi etched his name in the record books during the U19 World Cup 2026 final against England at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Friday, February 6. The left-handed batter recorded the fastest century in a men’s U19 World Cup final after reaching the milestone in just 55 balls.
India U19 opted to bat first after winning the toss. However, they lost the early wicket of Aaron George. Vaibhav Suryavanshi and captain Ayush Mhatre then added a crucial 142-run stand for the second wicket, keeping England under pressure for most of the innings and setting a strong platform for the team.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Creates History With Record-Breaking Century
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reached his century in just 55 balls. The 14-year-old batter became the youngest centurion in U19 World Cup history and also the fastest Indian to score a hundred in the tournament. Notably, he smashed the fastest century ever in a U19 World Cup final.
Sooryavanshi broke Raj Angad Bawa’s previous Indian record of a 69-ball hundred set in 2022. His knock stands as the second-fastest century in the history of the U19 World Cup, behind Australia’s Will Malajczuk, who scored a 51-ball hundred in the 2026 edition.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shatters Six-Hitting and Run-Scoring Records
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke the all-time record for the most sixes in U19 World Cup history. He smashed 28 sixes in the tournament, surpassing South Africa’s Dewald Brevis, who had hit 18 sixes in the 2022 edition.
Sooryavanshi also finished as the highest run-scorer of the 2026 edition. He went past Afghanistan’s Faisal Shinozada’s tally of 435 runs to claim the top spot.
The left-handed batter became the sixth player to score a century in an ICC U19 World Cup final and only the second Indian to achieve the feat. Unmukt Chand, Manjot Kalra, Brett Williams, Jarrad Burke, and Stephen Peters are the other batters with hundreds in a junior World Cup final.
The teenager first caught attention after securing a record IPL deal with Rajasthan Royals at the 2024 mega auction. He hit the first ball of his IPL career for a six and later smashed a 35-ball century, the fastest by an Indian in IPL history. Vaibhav also became the youngest centurion in T20 cricket.
