It is sure that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants to offer the 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi his debut cap for the Men’s national cricket team. The teenage sensation has proved himself with the U-19 India and with the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

It is undeniable that cricket at the senior cricket level is a whole different ball game. Across the nations, multiple players played brilliantly in the age group or in domestic cricket, but could not sustain the hard grind at the top level of the game. So, the board does not want to make a decision in a hurry on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's career.

An acid test for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Before throwing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi directly into the senior men’s cricket team, BCCI has named the opener in the India A team squad, which will face the A teams of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in June. The tri-nation 50-overs tournament will be held in Sri Lanka, starting on June 9.

This tri-nation series is considered an acid test for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Chances will be brighter for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to make his debut for the senior national cricket team if he can show his skills in the upcoming series. In this series, each of the teams will have to face the other two teams twice before the final. The two teams with the most wins in the preliminary stage will play the final match.

BCCI hints at its plan

The set of players BCCI has selected is pretty interesting. The average age limit of the squad is kept around 23 years. Arshad Khan, Yudhvir Singh, and Yash Thakur are the only three players who are over 25, and there is not a single player in the batch who is over 30.

The board’s intention is clear: to prepare a young bunch of cricketers across the departments who can serve the senior cricket team in the future. Along with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, players’ performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is a one-day format tournament, is also assessed before naming the players for the tour.

India A squad for the tri-series: Tilak Varma (Captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Riyan Parag (Vice-Captain), Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Kumar Kushagra (WK), Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan.

A multi-day 'Test' will be played in Sri Lanka as well

Following the limited-overs tri-series, India A will also play two multi-day matches against Sri Lanka A, with the squad for the red-ball fixtures to be announced at a later date.

The white-ball series will be played in Dambulla, while the multi-day matches will take place in Galle, the BCCI informed in an official press release on May 14.
