India’s young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi turned the opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025 into his own blockbuster show as he hammered a breathtaking 171 against UAE at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai on Friday (December 12).
The 14-year-old left-handed opener walked out with fearless intent and completely tore apart the UAE bowling attack, setting the perfect start for India U-19 in the tournament. Vaibhav reached his century in only 56 balls, blasting five fours and nine towering sixes on the way.

The young opener’s whirlwind innings finally ended at 171 off just 95 balls, laced with nine boundaries and 14 sixes, when he attempted a paddle sweep and was bowled around his legs by Uddish Suri. He had fallen heartbreakingly short of rewriting history.
Another seven runs would have helped the Rajasthan Royals sensation break Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing record of 177 in Youth ODIs. Rayudu remains the Indian player with the highest score in the Youth ODIs, with Vaibhav recording the second-highest score for India U-19.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi falls just short of Ambati Rayudu’s record but smashes his way into Asia Cup history books
Vaibhav Suryavanshi also missed the opportunity to become the first player in Under-19 Asia Cup history to hit the double century and only the second batter ever to score a double hundred in the Youth ODIs. South Africa’s Jorich van Schalkwyk remains the only player with a 200-plus score in the format.
The Proteas star had made history with 215 against Zimbabwe in 2025. However, Suryavanshi has now moved to second place on the list of highest individual scores for India in an Under-19 ODI innings, overtaking Shubman Gill, as well as Mayank Agarwal (160) and Raj Bawa (162*). Gill had scored 160 off 157 balls against England U19 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2017.
Well, it was Vaibhav’s second century in Youth ODIs, following his 143 against England earlier this year. Just a few days ago, the 14-year-old became the youngest player to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after smashing a brilliant ton for Bihar in the domestic T20 tournament.

After Ayush Mhatre fell cheaply, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Aaron George smashed the UAE bowlers all around the park as the duo stitched a massive 212-run partnership off just 146 balls for the second wicket to set India up for a big total.
Apart from Vaibhav’s whirlwind knock, Vihaan Malhotra and Aaron George both have played blistering knocks of 68 runs as India has crossed the 420-run mark in the ongoing match against the UAE. Uddish Suri and Yug Sharma both have so far taken two wickets each for the UAE.
