Another local state franchise tournament is set to begin in Madhya Pradesh following the successes of the Tamil Nadu Premier League, KSCA T20 League as well as the UP T20 League recently.

The central state of our country, which doesn't have a franchise in the Indian Premier League, is set to inaugurate the Madhya Pradesh League (MPL) after the conclusion of IPL 2024 on May 26th.

The brand new league is all set to welcome state players and IPL stars like batsmen Venkatesh Iyer, Rajat Patidar, and fast bowler Avesh Khan.

The capital city of Madhya Pradesh - Gwalior will be the host city of the tournament, which is most probably going to start from June onwards, concurrently with the ICC T20 World Cup.

It will be a good platform for untapped and untouched players from the state and also provide a platform for talented players from other states.

Venkatesh Iyer, Rajat Patidar, and Avesh Khan, 3 players who have represented the Indian team in the recent past, will add a lot of buzz with their presence in the league.

MPL will run in the same model as other state franchise leagues. The most successful out of those is the Tamil Nadu Premier League which also takes place in the summer months.

TNPL has attracted some of the most talented cricketers around the state division and over the years, it has also become a pipeline for the players to impress and eventually land deals in the IPL.

The likes of Ravi Ashwin, Sai Sudharsan, and Dinesh Karthik among others have made the league special and the same can be expected when Iyer, Patidar, and Avesh Khan turn up in Gwalior.

How many teams are there in the league and where will the matches be played?

The brand-new MPL is set to feature 5 teams from different parts of the state and they will battle it out for the inaugural edition at a newly built stadium in Gwalior.

All the league and knockout matches will take place at the picturesque Gwalior International Cricket Stadium in Shankarpur which, by the way it looks, can also host international games shortly due to its sitting capacity as well as the aesthetics.

MPL will have teams from regions of Rew, Jabalpur, Bhopal, Malwa and Gwalior. Notably, there is no team from the region of Indore, a city in Madhya Pradesh, which has been awarded as the cleanest city in India.

Regardless, all 5 franchises are named - Rewa Jaguars, Jabalpur Lions, Bhopal Leopards, Malwa Panthers, and Gwalior Cheetahs.

The league will also see other Madhya Pradesh stars turn up to grace the first-ever edition that is going to offer quality cricket and the perfect platform to fine-tune skills. It has not been revealed yet as to which team Venkatesh Iyer, Rajat Patidar, and Avesh Khan will represent but it will be disclosed very soon as well.

GDCA Mahanaaryaman Scindia says the league will be a huge success

Mahanaaryaman Scindia, the vice-president of the Gwalior District Cricket Association, has high hopes from MPL as he claimed that they have received a phenomenal response from the people in the state. "The response we've received has been nothing short of phenomenal. With such tremendous interest and support, we're confident that the league is destined for great success." - Scindia told
