Legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble did not hold back in his criticism of Virat Kohli's dismissal, labeling it as “suicidal” on Day 1 of the ongoing third and final Test match between India and New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

In a shocking twist of fate on Day 1 of the final Test at the Wankhede Stadium, the Indian cricket team witnessed a dramatic collapse that left fans and cricket experts stunned.

Just when it seemed India was cruising towards a commanding position, they lost three wickets in the dying moments of the day, including the horrible dismissal of Virat Kohli for just four runs off six balls.

The Indian cricket team appeared to be in control, with solid contributions from their top order. However, the situation took a turn for the worse as Ajaz Patel dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) and nightwatchman Mohammed Siraj (0) in a breathtaking double-wicket maiden.

But the real heartbreaker came in the final over of Day 1 at the Wankhede Stadium. Kohli, who had been looking steady at the crease, was unexpectedly run out due to a sharp throw from Matt Henry.

The timing of this dismissal was gut-wrenching. His attempt to take a quick single backfired hugely, leaving the fans and team in stunned silence as he was caught short of the crease.

In his analysis, Anil Kumble has shared his views on the unfortunate dismissals at crucial moments, emphasizing that such lapses cannot become a pattern for a team of India’s caliber. The former Indian head coach said that nobody was expecting Kohli, known for his sharp cricketing acumen, to get run out in such a fashion.

He noted that in the final moments of a day’s play, when the team had the momentum, losing Kohli was nothing short of a devastating blow. Kumble slammed Kohli for not showing the maturity that demanded the situation against New Zealand.

You can't have this repeatedly happening in every game: Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble said on Jio Cinema after the end of play on Day 1: “You can't have this repeatedly happening in every game, so it's more than a concern at the moment. You had an opportunity to get inside with just one wicket down of Rohit Sharma. And then yes, Jaiswal gets out, and the night watchman comes in and gets out first ball, then this.”

Kumble signed off by saying, “Nobody expected the run-out. This was certainly not something that you expect of Virat Kohli getting run out in the last over or last few minutes of a day's play. And it was something that he just hit the shot and then went straight for a run, which is suicidal.”

Notably, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill have a strong start to India with their blistering fifties on Day 2, but then, yet again, New Zealand spinner brought the tourists back into the game by dismissing Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, and Sarfaraz Khan in quick succession.
