The Indian Premier League teams are likely to revamp their squad ahead of the upcoming season of the IPL. The likes of Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have been the two most eager sides to make significant changes to their squad.
The two franchises, CSK and KKR, have the highest purse after some shocking releases like Andre Russell for the Knights and Matheesha Pathirana for the Super Kings.
BCCI adds 9 new players to the IPL auction pool
The IPL 2026 mini-auction has been scheduled to be held on the 16th of December. The BCCI had released a list of 350 players for the mini-auction.
After the 350 players, the BCCI committee concerned with the IPL has revised the list and has added a total of 9 more players who have either been released from squads or have been freshly added into the pool.
The newly added players include IPL winner Swastik Chikara, recently released by RCB, and Virandeep Singh, who is the first player from an Associate nation (Malaysia) in the history of the IPL.
The other seven players added are Tripura all-rounder Manisankar Murasingh, Chama Milind (Hyderabad), K.L. Shrijith (Karnataka), Ethan Bosch (South Africa), Chris Green (Australia), Rahul Raj Namala (Uttarakhand), and Virat Singh (Jharkhand).
Former Indian cricketer's category revised in the IPL auction pool
Former Indian cricketer Nikhil Chaudhary played for India in the domestic circuit before he was left stranded in the islands while visiting his uncle during the COVID years.
The player then went on to feature in the Australian cricket unit, and then this year made it to the Tasmania XI and became the first player of Indian origin to score a maiden Sheffield Shield century.
He has played in multiple global leagues, including the BBL, Global Super League, Max60 Caribbean, and Abu Dhabi T10. This is the first time that he is featured as an Australian overseas in the IPL auction, and the BCCI had enlisted him among local Indian players. Now, his category has been changed to 'overseas'.
Veterans skip IPL after years of entertaining shows in IPL
The BCCI and the IPL have seen some major blows this time, since several veterans of the game have announced their retirement from the world's most prestigious league.
The likes of Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, who have been great servants of world cricket, have been withdrawn from the auction. While the former Proteas star is likely to feature in the PSL, Maxwell seems to be taking a sabbatical from the league following his miserable show last season.
The 359 players include 112 overseas cricketers and 247 Indian players fighting for the 77 vacant spots among all teams, with KKR going in with a mammoth purse of INR 64.30 crores.
