The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has to some big decisions in the upcoming months with Virat Kohli stepping down from T20 Internationals captaincy and Head Coach Ravi Shastri’s tenure ending after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
However, nothing has been finalised as of now and fans are confused whether the new Head Coach will be announced first or the successor of Virat Kohli in T20 Internationals.
Meanwhile, ahead of Captain and Head Coach BCCI will have to appoint a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to conduct the necessary interviews of applicants consider considering Madan Lal has retired from his post.
The big question ahead of the appointment of a new Head Coach remains, Does the captain or vice-captain of the Indian National Cricket Team in ODIs, T20Is or Tests need to have a say in the appointment of the new head coach.
Previously it has been seen that the captains always had a say in the selection of coaches. During Sourav Ganguly’s era, he used to decide everything in Indian cricket whether it was including Greg Chappell and later insisting that he should go or selection of Gary Kirsten. Also in the MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli era, they backed the selection of Ravi Shastri as a Head Coach of the Indian team.
Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma Will Have A Say In India’s Head Coach Selection
So, the current all-format captain of India National Cricket Team Virat Kohli and the next captain of India in T20 Internationals which is expected to be Rohit Sharma should definitely have a say in the selection of the new Head Coach. However, if the Board of Control for Cricket in India thinks otherwise then things will not be fair for the new skipper.
“There’s hardly 12 months left for the next T20 World Cup (in 2022). There’s hardly 24 months left for the (2023) 50-over World Cup. I’m assuming the BCCI will not split white-ball captaincy because that doesn’t make any sense. In that case, if the new captain must start preparing for the World Cup straight away, then is it fair to not let him have a say?” say those who’re tracking Indian cricket from the closest quarters.
Meanwhile, Legendary Indian batsman Rahul Dravid is expected to become the new Head Coach of India as it has been reported that he has accepted the offer made by the Board of Control for Cricket. However, when the Indian skipper Kohli was questioned about the appointment of Dravid. He said:
“No idea exactly what’s happening on that front. No detailed discussion with anyone yet,”
