A notable incident involving Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir took place during the first ODI of the series between the India National Cricket Team and the South Africa National Cricket Team.
The batting legend Virat Kohli was seen giving a death stare after head coach Gautam Gambhir’s subdued celebration of opener Rohit Sharma’s half-century in the match at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shine in Ranchi
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made their comeback to international cricket at home in the ODI series opener against the South Africa National Cricket Team on Sunday, November 30.
Batting first, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early, which led to Virat Kohli coming out in the middle and joining forces with Rohit Sharma. The duo continued their batting dominance from the Sydney ODI against the Australia National Cricket Team and decimated the Proteas.
Rohit Sharma is the one who usually attacks the bowlers, but things were quite different in the Ranchi ODI as Virat Kohli looked equally aggressive, and he took the attack to the Proteas bowlers.
Kohli was the first one to complete his fifty in the match off 48 balls, and then Rohit Sharma reached the milestone in 43 balls as the Proteas were sent on the back foot early on in the innings.
After hitting the fifty, just as Rohit Sharma raised his bat to celebrate, the cameras panned to the Indian dressing room, where Gautam Gambhir was seen clapping for the former Indian skipper.
However, as the cameras again focused on the middle, Virat Kohli was staring straight in the direction of the Indian dressing room. It looked like a proper death stare as he had no smile on his face.
Fans speculated that Kohli was actually giving a death stare to Gautam Gambhir, showing that they still had a lot of cricket left in them and would continue to perform. However, there is also a possibility that the stare by Kohli was nothing but a routine glance.

But when you pass the great Sachin Tendulkar, then you know where you stand - Sunil Gavaskar
Speaking after Virat Kohli slammed a sensational century, the batting legend Sunil Gavaskar lavished rich praise on him and stated that he is the greatest ODI batter, even better than the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar.
“I don’t think there’s any doubt about that,” Gavaskar said on air, as quoted by Hindustan Times. “I mean, it’s not just me, I think those who have played with him and against him, they all agree that he is the greatest in the one-day format. Look, you score 52 hundreds, that actually sets you up right up there in the stratosphere, so to speak.”
“I just heard that Ricky Ponting said that he’s the best that he’s seen in one-day cricket. So, I mean, when somebody, an Australian captain...they will agree that it is rare, very rare to get praise from an Australian. Very, very difficult. So, if an Australian says that, you know, he was the best, then I don’t think there is any argument for that.”
“Sachin has been absolutely right up there with 51 Hundreds. But when you pass the great Sachin Tendulkar, then you know where you stand.”
