“Deeply saddened by the heinous attack in Pahalgam on innocent people. Heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. Praying for peace and strength to families of all those who lost their lives and justice to be served for this cruel act,” Kohli posted on his official Instagram profile.

Virat Kohli and several Team India players are currently involved in the IPL 2025. The attack has reignited calls to sever cricketing ties with Pakistan.

Former Indian cricketer Shreevats Goswami has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to end all cricketing engagements with Pakistan. The last encounter between India and Pakistan was in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where the Rohit Sharma-led team secured the victory.

According to the police, four terrorists opened fire on tourists at close range. A victim’s daughter shared with PTI that the attackers selectively targeted male tourists after inquiring whether they were Hindu or Muslim.

“There were several tourists around, but the terrorists specifically targeted male tourists after asking whether they were Hindu or Muslim,” she said.

Pakistan Allegedly Behind Recent Terror Attack in Pahalgam

According to reports, the recent terror attack in Pahalgam was backed by Pakistan, though official confirmation from Indian authorities is still awaited. The attack has further strained the already tense cricketing ties between India and Pakistan, which were severed after the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

While debates about keeping politics out of sports have been ongoing, incidents like this make the resumption of cricketing relations between the two nations appear increasingly unlikely.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut his visit to Saudi Arabia short and returned to New Delhi on Wednesday.

Virat Kohli's wife, Anushka Sharma, also posted a story on Instagram to mourn the deadly terror attack.
