Virat Kohli could not help but troll the fans of his own IPL team over their ongoing belief that Royal Challengers Bengaluru will finally win the trophy this year.

The Bengaluru-based outfit is one of the only three teams that has been playing in the IPL since the inaugural season in 2008 but is yet to win the tournament. RCB have qualified for the final three times in the past but ended up on the wrong side of the result on all three occasions.

In the past, some of IPL's most successful players such as Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Shane Watson, and KL Rahul in addition to Virat Kohli himself plied their trade for RCB but could not guide the team to the elusive IPL title.

Virat Kohli trolls RCB fans:

After years of disappointment, RCB fans believe that this could finally be the year when their long wait for the IPL trophy ends. And the main reason behind the new-found belief is not the team's performance but superstition.

Since Virat Kohli's jersey number is 18 and the ongoing edition is the 18th season of IPL, the fans believe that RCB is likely to win the tournament this year. It all began with Star Sports' tribute to Kohli. The official IPL broadcasters released an ad celebrating Kohli's incredible journey in the IPL.

"Bengaluru's jersey number 18 is entering his 18th year as a Royal Challenger! As the 18th IPL season approaches, the signs couldn't be clearer! Ee Sala Cup Namde for the King? Yeh #TATAIPL hai, yahan sab possible hai!" Star Sports wrote while posting the ad on social media.

And Virat Kohli was recently asked about it by popular anchor Mr. Nags in the latest RCB insider show.

"Virat, a lot of RCB fans have had an inner illumination, an inner awakening this year. They are saying it's the 18th year. Your jersey number is 18. And they are feeling it. What do you want to say to them?" asked Mr. Nags.

In reply, Virat Kohli hilariously said: "Were you not feeling it till now? It took you 18 years to feel it. What about 17, 16, 19?"

Mr. Nags was not satisfied with Kohli's explanation and said: "17 AB was there. But the feeling, why are they saying that this year? It's an inner awakening."

Kohli then ended the exchange on a positive note, saying: "I think that's a good reason to be in a good space and be positive."

Meanwhile, RCB have started their season on a strong note. With four wins from six games, they are currently at the third spot in the points table. Kohli has also looked in good touch so far and is the leading run-scorer for RCB.
