Star Indian batter Virat Kohli is on the cusp of making history during the ongoing three-match ODI series against the Sri Lanka national cricket team. Virat Kohli has the opportunity to break Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s 18-year-old record and become the fastest player to reach 14,000 runs in ODI cricket.
Virat Kohli made his comeback during the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka after a break following the T20 World Cup 2024 victory. Kohli scored 24 runs off 32 balls before being dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga. He failed to convert the start into a big score during the 231-run chase in Colombo on August 2.
The Rohit Sharma-led team managed to score 230 runs in 47.5 overs, leading to a tie. The Indian team had the chance to secure a victory with just one run needed and two wickets in hand. Sri Lanka skipper Charith Asalanka dismissed Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh on consecutive deliveries to bowl out India.

Virat Kohli is just 128 runs away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record for the fastest to reach 14,000 ODI runs. Tendulkar set the record in 350 innings during an ODI against Pakistan in Peshawar in 2006. Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara reached the milestone of 378 innings during the 2015 ODI World Cup.
