Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir reached out to star batter Virat Kohli to learn about his plans ahead of the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19. Notably, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not certain for the ODI World Cup in 2027.

Kohli will return to international cricket for India in the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19. The star batter last featured in the 2025 Champions Trophy final, where the Rohit Sharma-led team secured victory against New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Virat Kohli Set to Make ODI Comeback After IPL 2025 Break

Virat Kohli is set to return to action after a break following the IPL 2025 final, where he played a crucial role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden IPL trophy. He scored 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75, the third-highest tally in the tournament.

The Delhi-born batter has been spending time with his family in London, having not played any competitive cricket. He has an exceptional ODI record against Australia, scoring 2,451 runs in 50 matches at an average of 54.46, including eight centuries and 15 fifties.

The right-handed batter has amassed 1,327 runs in 29 ODIs on Australian soil at an average of 51.03, featuring five centuries and six half-centuries. Kohli played his first ODI outing in Australia in 2012 during the Commonwealth Bank Series at the MCG.

Virat Kohli Expected to Be Part Of India's Test Squad in England Series

The Delhi-born cricketer ended his Test career in May. He was expected to be part of India’s squad for the away series against England. The former captain now plays in ODI cricket at the international level.

The 36-year-old retired from Tests, having played 123 matches and scored 9,230 runs at 46.85 with 30 centuries. He is also the most successful Indian Test captain, winning 40 out of 68 games, including no series loss at home.

Virat Kohli endured a difficult run in his final Test series, the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He played all five matches but could manage only 190 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75, registering a lone century.

Gautam Gambhir Calls Virat Kohli On ODI Future Ahead of Australia Series

According to Rohit Juglan from Revsportz, Juglan stated that Gautam Gambhir contacted Virat Kohli to clarify his availability regarding the future. Juglan shared that Gambhir called Kohli in London and spoke for around 15 minutes. He added that Kohli would discuss matters after returning to India.

"London se Delhi ek call aai, kareeb 15 mint baat hui. Fir kaha gaya India aakar baat karta hun," Juglan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The remaining two matches of India’s ODI series in Australia are set to take place at Adelaide Oval on October 23 and Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25.
