Team India batter Virat Kohli has put to rest rumors about his retirement, following the viral photo of him with a white beard. With the ODI series against Australia just two months away, the former Indian captain has returned to the nets in London and shared the update on his official Instagram account.
Virat last played an international match in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where India secured victory against New Zealand in the final. He played a pivotal role in India’s success during the tournament, scoring 218 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 54.50, including an unbeaten century.
Virat Kohli Announces His ODI Future Amid Rumors
Kohli has dropped a hint about returning to competitive cricket. The former India captain shared a photograph from a training facility alongside Gujarat Titans assistant coach Naeem Amin.
Kohli has not featured in any match since the conclusion of IPL 2025, and the post suggested that he has resumed training ahead of a potential comeback in October.
A popular Virat Kohli fan account on Instagram reposted the photo with the caption, “Virat Kohli prepping for the Aussie ODIs!” The repost gained extra attention when Kohli’s official account liked it, further fueling excitement around his return.

Virat Kohli’s Future in the ODI World Cup 2027 Uncertain
Kohli recently made public appearances at Wimbledon and a charity event hosted by Yuvraj Singh in London. He has stayed away from the spotlight during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
According to a PTI report, Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not guaranteed spots for the ODI World Cup 2027, as both players will be around 40 at that time. The BCCI reportedly plans to have an “honest and professional” discussion with the veterans about their future.
India are set to play 27 ODIs through the end of 2026, with more fixtures in 2027. To remain in contention for the World Cup, Kohli will need to participate in most of these matches to maintain fitness, form, and his key role in India’s 50-over setup.
Virat Retired from Tests and T20 Internationals
In 2024, Virat retired from T20I cricket after India’s T20 World Cup triumph in the West Indies. Kohli bid farewell to Test cricket ahead of the five-match Test series between India and England.
He scored 9,230 runs in 123 Tests at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 fifties. He finished as India’s fourth-highest Test run-scorer and the country’s most successful Test captain with 40 wins in 68 matches, including victories in England, Australia, and South Africa.
The 36-year-old is available only for ODIs and is expected to return for India’s ODI series against Australia starting October 19. He was scheduled to make a comeback alongside Rohit Sharma in the Bangladesh series in August, but the tour was postponed to next year due to political tensions.
