Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan has opened up about breaking a major T20 World Cup record held by Team India batter Virat Kohli in the ongoing tournament. The right-handed batter said that his main focus is contributing to the team and winning matches rather than chasing personal milestones.

Farhan scored 73 runs off 41 balls against the United States of America but was dismissed for a duck against India. He then delivered a match-winning unbeaten century against Namibia. The 29-year-old has scored 220 runs in four matches at an average of 73.33, with one half-century and one century to his name.

I Don’t Look at the Stats - Sahibzada Farhan on Breaking Virat Kohli’s Record

At a pre-match press conference ahead of Pakistan’s game against England on Tuesday, Sahibzada Farhan was asked about breaking Virat Kohli’s record for the highest runs in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Farhan said that he does not focus on individual milestones.

“If you ask me personally, I don’t look at the stats, I don’t look at records. Even when I perform, people tell me that I have hit so many sixes, played so many strikes, and scored so many runs. So I don’t look at the stats," Farhan said.

"The important thing is that you have to take risks in T20. If you take the pressure of breaking records, the same records are broken; they are made to break. So it is not my focus, but I will try to finish at the top. And for Pakistan, it will be beneficial for Pakistan and Pakistan’s name will be made known," he added.

Sahibzada Farhan’s Form Could Be Crucial for Pakistan in Super Eight Stage

Virat Kohli scored 319 runs in the 2014 T20 World Cup. He achieved the feat in six matches at an average of 106.33, with four half-centuries, and it remains the highest run tally in the tournament’s history.

During the Super Eight stage, Sahibzada Farhan’s form could be vital for Pakistan. The Men in Green will have to defeat England in the upcoming match to stay in the race for the semi-finals.

Pakistan have just one point in the Super Eight stage after their opening match in Colombo was abandoned due to rain. With very little room for error, the match against England has become extremely important. England defeated Sri Lanka by 51 runs at the same venue.

It’s Not a Big Deal to Face Jofra Archer - Sahibzada Farhan

Sahibzada Farhan was asked about the challenge of facing Jofra Archer. Farhan stated that he is not concerned about the England pacer, as Pakistan batters have faced Archer before and are also used to bowlers operating around 145 kph.

"No, it’s not a big deal to face Jofra Archer. We have already faced him in Pakistan. We have good bowlers; they also bowl at 145. So it’s not a big deal," Farhan said.

Pakistan are at second in the Super Eight standings with one point to their name. Earlier in the tournament, the Salman Ali Agha-led side finished second in the group stage behind India.
