Virat Kohli is in terrific touch in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa at home. After announcing his retirement from Test cricket in May 2025, Virat Kohli had an unforgettable comeback as he was dismissed for back-to-back ducks in Australia.

But since hammering an unbeaten 74 off 81 balls in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, the dashing right-hander never looked back, and now his new aggressive avatar in the format has left everyone awestruck.

Virat Kohli unleashes beast mode in Raipur ODI

The former India captain struck 135 in Ranchi to help India crush South Africa by 17 runs in the first ODI, and now in the second game, Kohli was at his absolute beast mode with the bat at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

After early setbacks, where both openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, were dismissed cheaply for 14 and 22, respectively, Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad took charge against South Africa in the ongoing second ODI in Raipur.

Their partnership has been a treat to watch for the fans. Gaikwad smashed his maiden ODI century and only second in the international arena, but could not bat deep, as Marco Jansen managed to get the better of the India star.

Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad break 14-year record

However, during the course of his innings, Gaikwad and Kohli stitched a record partnership of 195 runs off 156 balls for the third wicket in the ongoing second ODI against South Africa.

With this entertaining partnership in Raipur, India, they set a new record as the duo went past the 194-run stand made by Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik in Gwalior back in 2010. Kohli and Gaikwad’s partnership is now the highest for India against South Africa in any ODI.

However, after Gaikwad’s dismissal, the right-handed batter had to be cautious and wait for another century in the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa. But the moment finally came in the 38th over of the Indian innings when Kohli smacked another century at home.

Virat Kohli creates another unbreakable record in Raipur with 53rd ODI ton

Kohli reached his century by pushing a full ball to long-on for a single against Marco Jansen. It was his back-to-back hundred and 53rd ODI century, and Kohli celebrated in his classic style, jumping slightly, punching the air, lifting his arms, and taking off his helmet.

He then looked up towards the sky, thanking the almighty for his 84th international century, and shared a warm hug with his batting partner KL Rahul, who is batting at 14*. With this century, Kohli has added another incredible record to his name.

The Indian batting legend now has 11 different streaks where he has scored centuries in two or more consecutive ODI innings. No other player in cricket history comes close to this level of consistency. The next best is the South African legend AB de Villiers, who managed six such streaks in ODIs.

Here's how fans celebrated Virat Kohli's back-to-back ODI tons:
