Virat Kohli along with the Indian team landed in New Delhi on Thursday and met the Prime Minister at his residence. The victorious Indian team finally landed in the country on Thursday (July 4) after winning the recently included ICC T20 World Cup 2024. While the team was scheduled to return to the country earlier, their departure from Barbados was delayed due to Hurricane Beryl.

They finally managed to leave the island nation on Wednesday on a special Air India flight arranged by the BCCI. Rohit Sharma & Co. landed in New Delhi in the early hours on Thursday and received a warm welcome from the fans before leaving for ITC Maurya Hotel in Central Delhi.

Immediately after reaching the hotel, the team left for the Prime Minister's residence. As per reports, the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi took place in two batches. The PM first met the players before meeting the support staff.

After the meeting, India superstar Virat Kohli took to Instagram to post a couple of photos of the special meeting and stated that it was a great honour meeting the PM. In the first photo, all the players posed with the PM who could be seen holding the T20 World Cup trophy along with captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid.

As per reports, the open-top bus parade will start at the Air India Building at Nariman Point and will end with a gathering at the Wankhede Stadium. The BCCI will also felicitate the team and will hand over the Rs 125 crore prize money as well.

India's long wait ends:

The victory in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024 ended India's long wait for an ICC trophy. India had not won an ICC trophy since its victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy. On the other hand, they had last won a World Cup in any format way back in 2011 while their only victory in the T20 World Cup had come in 2007.

The Rohit Sharma-led side thoroughly dominated the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup and went on to the final competition. In the final, India beat South Africa by 7 runs to end the tournament on a winning note. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja have also announced their retirement from T20Is after the World Cup victory.
