As per the latest reports, Indian batter Virat Kohli has been kept in the race for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 and will continue to play for India as their No. 3 in the ODI format. No plans of dropping Virat Kohli or his retirement have been reported.

In a recent change of events, former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been kept in the plans for the ICC World Cup 2027 while Rohit Sharma has been dumped by the BCCI.

Virat Kohli's fate sealed in the Indian National Cricket Team

A News24 journalist, Vaibhav Bhola, has informed that, as per the latest news from his sources, the Indian management is considering having Kohli in the side and has not aligned his retirement with Rohit's.

He said, "Virat ko leke maamla alag hai (With Virat Kohli they have different plans). He is performing and getting runs, so he will continue as the batter since he does not have to bear the lineage of captaincy in the Indian side, unlike Rohit Sharma."

Kohli and Rohit have both retired together from the remaining two formats. Rohit and Virat announced their retirement from T20Is after the T20 World Cup triumph, while Virat followed Rohit with his Test retirement call just a few days after the skipper retired midway through the IPL before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

The two stars, though, might be of the same age group, with Rohit a year older than Virat, but they are way apart in terms of fitness.

India is considering the 2027 CWC plans with Kohli in the XI

Indian coaches and selectors have thought about the 2027 World Cup plans, and Virat Kohli is still a part of the squad.

Kohli's devotion for the game, his never-give-up attitude, and his legacy, which often keeps the opponent intimidated, have been put alongside his supreme form, and India don't have any replacement for him at the No.3 spot.

The Indian side, despite their dominating performance, failed to settle in for a proper number 3 who could be reliable in Tests. They would not want the same situation to unfold with Kohli's untimely exit from one-dayers as well.

Rohit Sharma might be given a farewell series on Australia tour

Indian two-time ICC tournament-winning skipper Rohit Sharma has been snubbed from the race for captaincy any further. Sharma will star for India in the ODIs as per reports; however, with doubts over his retention till 2027 CWC, his captaincy might be snubbed.

Even though Rohit Sharma has been in top form in the format, he has been suggested, as per reports, to announce his retirement, marking the Australia white-ball tour as his farewell series.
