Kohli has returned to the Indian team after nearly seven months for the upcoming three-match ODI series. He hasn’t played for the Men in Blue since the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 victory in the UAE. The right-handed batter now plays only One Day Internationals (ODIs) after retiring from Tests and T20 Internationals.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Are Quality Players - Gautam Gambhir
Kohli and Rohit Sharma have returned to international cricket ahead of India’s ODI series against Australia 19. Head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that they bring value to the team while adding that the team stays in the present with the 2027 World Cup still two and a half years away.

Virat arrived in Delhi on October 14 and traveled with the Indian contingent to Australia for the three-match ODI series. He last played competitive cricket in IPL 2025, where he was instrumental in Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning the maiden title.
Kohli has become one of the greatest performers in ODI cricket since his debut in 2008. He has scored 14,181 runs in 302 matches at an average of 57.88, including 51 centuries and 74 fifties.
Kohli has amassed 2,451 runs against Australia in 50 matches at an average of 54.46, with eight centuries and 15 fifties. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new ODI captain, with Shreyas Iyer serving as his deputy.
