After Ravi Shastri, Aakash Chopra has brutally targeted Virat Kohli after Shreyas Iyer’s selfless knock in the IPL 2025 clash between Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, March 25.

The former Indian batter took a subtle dig at Virat Kohli for giving more value to individual milestones than the team’s needs in a viral social media post on XI. However, it was an indirect attack from the commentator, who didn’t mention Virat in his social media post.

Chopra took social media by storm after Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer sacrificed his well-deserved century and allowed Shashank Singh, with whom he played age-group cricket, to help PBKS put up a strong total on the board against the Titans in Ahmedabad.

Shreyas was just a hit away from his maiden IPL century, but fate had other plans. The Indian batter raced to 90 off just 38 balls by the end of the 17th over. With three overs to go, the milestone seemed inevitable, but he got to face only four more balls, finishing unbeaten on 97.

Despite the temptation to reach the three-figure mark, Shreyas put his PBKS team first. He encouraged his batting partner, Shashank, to go all out without worrying about personal milestones. Shashank didn’t disappoint, smashing two sixes and six fours—five of them in the final over bowled by Mohammed Siraj to end with a blistering 44* off just 16 balls against the GT.

Aakash Chopra’s cryptic post revives Virat Kohli’s 2019 IPL century controversy

However, Iyer missed another chance to notch his maiden IPL century, but his selfless decision played a key role in Punjab Kings' thrilling 11-run win over the Titans, and he is winning a lot of hearts. Among them was Aakash Chopra, who took a dig at selfies of Virat Kohli indirectly.

After the match, Aakash Chopra posted on X: "Iyer was only one hit away from his first IPL century. Didn’t get the strike thereafter. Didn’t ask for it either. And it’s set a nice example for everyone. T20 cricket is all about maximising every ball…whoever is hitting, keeps hitting. No personal milestones are bigger than a few extra Team runs. Let’s not forget that we have seen people denying runs to farm the strike in the last overs when a milestone is within touching distance."

What happened in IPL 2019?

Chopra has indirectly recalled how Kohli refused to come back for a double to keep strike to complete his century against KKR in an IPL match back in 2019. At that time, the former RCB captain was batting on 96 runs off 56 balls, and only three balls were left to complete.

Well, Kohli was firm on completing his milestone, so he refused Marcus Stoinis to take the strike during that RCB vs KKR match. Not just that IPL 2019 match, the former Indian skipper was found many times prioritizing his fifties and hundreds instead of his team’s need.

And now Chopra made the most of the occasion to school Virat Kohli, but indirectly. However, fans were quick to notice it was an indirect shot at the former Indian skipper. While many are trolling Chopra for not having the guts to name Kohli, some joined the commentator in mocking and slamming the Indian batting icon for being selfish when it comes to personal milestones.

Here's how fans react to Aakash Chopra's viral dig at Virat Kohli on X:

During the innings break, Shashank Sharma revealed Iyer’s words by saying: “Let me be very honest, Shreyas from ball one told me, ‘Shashank, don’t think of my hundred. Just play your shots and finish it well. So, kudos to him, the way he spoke to me before the over.”
