Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli is on the cusp of a major milestone as RCB gear up to face the Mumbai Indians for a reverse fixture of IPL 2026 at the New Raipur Stadium.

In the night match on May 10, RCB will play MI at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. In the reverse fixture in Mumbai, RCB had come out on top. Now, Virat Kohli has an opportunity to create history against the Mumbai Indians.

Virat Kohli in IPL 2026

Although he is not the skipper anymore, Kohli has been in top form with the bat. He is RCB's highest run-scorer in this IPL season. With 379 runs in 10 matches, Kohli is in 10th place in the Orange Cap table and is likely to move up if he achieves the milestone today.

In his latest game, Kohli got a duck, but he will be raring to go against a franchise that he has a good record against. Kohli is also averaging 47.37 at a strike rate of 164 this year. He also has 3 fifties this year.

Virat Kohli's IPL record against the Mumbai Indians

Against the five-time IPL champions, Virat Kohli has enjoyed a significant amount of success. In 36 matches, he has scored 972 runs against them with 7 half-centuries and a highest score of 92* achieved in 2018.

Kohli also has a batting average of 32.4 with a strike rate of 128.91 against the Mumbai franchise. On the surface of it, Kohli has two massive milestones that he can look forward to when he takes the field in Raipur.

Virat Kohli's upcoming milestone in IPL 2026 clash vs Mumbai Indians

First, Kohli has an opportunity to become the highest run-getter against the Mumbai Indians in IPL history. Apart from being the highest run-scorer in tournament history, Kohli is also the highest run-scorer against CSK, DC, PBKS, RR, and GT in IPL history.

While Kohli has 972 runs against the Mumbai Indians, he is only the second-highest run scorer against the 2020 champions. The top spot is currently held by KL Rahul with 977 runs. This means that Kohli needs just 6 runs to become the highest run scorer in IPL history against the Mumbai Indians.

If Kohli gets the milestone today, then it will stay that way for a while. MI are not scheduled to face KL Rahul and the Delhi Capitals in this season anymore, and both teams are practically out of playoff contention now.

The second milestone is that of becoming the first player to make 1,000 runs against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. If Kohli gets the mark, he will have made 1,000 or more IPL runs against 5 different teams. That will also be a record in itself.

RCB's form in IPL 2026

After starting strong, RCB have hit a block in the middle of IPL 2026. Having lost each of their last two games, the defending champions have slipped to fourth place in the points table after losing each of their last two matches.

The race to the playoffs has been getting more and more intense now. Virat Kohli and Royal Challengers Bangalore cannot really afford any more slip-ups if they are to make the last four.
