Former Team India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik said that senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli should take responsibility for the Test series loss. Dinesh Karthik stated that senior players should think about how they could have performed better and should not shy away from criticism.
India suffered their first-ever home Test series defeat to New Zealand, as the visitors clinched victories in both the Bengaluru and Pune matches. The Tom Latham-led team took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Team India will be hoping to secure a consolation win in the last game.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma should own this loss
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said that senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja should take responsibility for the recent series loss. He emphasized that these players celebrate when the team wins, but they must also be accountable for the losses.
The former cricketer said that these senior players should analyze their performances and work on ways to improve. Dinesh Karthik also stated that it’s fair to question how they can help shape the future of Indian Test cricket following this defeat.
"If you can celebrate the highs, and the fans enjoy, and how important they are when the team wins. Then when the losses happen, and the brickbats are thrown at you, I think they will have the courage to face it. If you go and ask each one of them personally of what they think of this series, I don't think they will have great things to say of how the whole team has played," the former RCB star added.
"It is only but fair, to ask them questions about what can be done better for the future of Test cricket in India, and Indian Test cricket. And it is a very very correct question to ask (if the onus of the defeat lies on senior players)," Karthik opined.

New Zealand Ended India's 18-series Winning Streak At Home
From 2013 to 2024, the India national cricket team won 18 consecutive Test series at home, which is the most by any team in the history of Test cricket. This defeat marked the end of an era of home dominance for India in Test cricket. The home team tried to bounce back in the series but failed to do so.
