Indian legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been in fine touch since their comeback to international cricket with the series in Australia. The two legends look to continue their brilliance in the one-day format with another series against the Kiwis.
India will be up against the Kiwis in their upcoming series, which commences on the 11th of January. The series begins with three ODIs between the Champions Trophy 2025 finalists.
The series would then mark five T20I matches between the two most formidable sides in the world currently. Both New Zealand and India have a fine blend of young sensations and veterans, and will be marking these as the final preparations for the home T20 World Cup.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in fine touch in ODIs
Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement ahead of the Test series against England and had already retired from the shortest format of the game last year after their T20 World Cup triumph.
Virat's retirement from Test cricket has been shrouded in controversy and has also sparked rumours of a comeback, but the legend has confirmed that he has closed that chapter in his illustrious career.
Returning in the ODIs against Australia, Rohit Sharma was the star performer with a heroic hundred in Sydney and was the player of the series for India with 202 runs in 3 games. Kohli, on the other hand, scored his first runs at the SCG after two ducks in the series.
Later in the South Africa series, Virat Kohli was unstoppable with two hundreds in the first two games and a final unbeaten fifty in the decider in a winning cause for India. Rohit also made some valuable contributions with two half-centuries.
Indian legends extend good form to domestic cricket
After the internationals, the relentless form continued in the domestic cricket league as well. The Indian legend Virat Kohli returned to domestic cricket after a major gap of 15 years and scored a hundred in the first game against Andhra Pradesh. He then went on to succeed in the second game with 77, the highest for Delhi in the game, where they defeated Gujarat.
Rohit, on the other hand, played for the first time for Mumbai since the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy and slammed a stunning 155 in the first match against Sikkim. However, he was dismissed for a duck the very next game against Uttarakhand, which marked the end of the domestic season for the two stars.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's future endeavours with India
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have cited the 2027 ICC World Cup as their initial target. If they succeed in winning it for India, they will go down as happy veterans. However, the BCCI has not assured them a spot until they can prove their capability to continue till the 2027 World Cup.
Currently, they are preparing for the New Zealand series, which begins in Vadodara. The two have looked to hammer every ball in the nets and are looking solid ahead of the series. They would then have another long break before they return to cricket with the IPL and international cricket with the tour to England in the June-July window. In a video shared by the BCCI, the duo were seen grinding hard in the training sessions.
