Australian Series Crucial for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill
The upcoming Australian series is important for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their ODI futures. It was reported that their selection in the squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup may depend on their performances during the series.
It will also be Shubman Gill’s debut as ODI captain. He was appointed as ODI captain following a successful series against England and the West Indies in Tests. Gill will be hoping to replicate his leadership impact in the white-ball format, setting the tone for his captaincy style.
The series will allow Gill to assess his team, understand player roles, and gauge responses in various match situations. With stars like Kohli and Rohit in the lineup, Gill will also gain valuable insights into managing and leading a star-studded squad.
Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma on the Verge of Breaking Records
Virat Kohli is just one century shy of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most international centuries in a single format. If he scores during the upcoming ODI series against Australia, it will be his 52nd ODI century, surpassing Tendulkar’s 51 Test centuries.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is closing in on a historic milestone of his own. The 38-year-old needs only 10 more runs to become the first Indian to score 1,000 runs against Australia on Australian soil.
Rohit has 990 runs in 19 innings at an average of 58.23, including four centuries and two fifties, a feat no other Indian batter has achieved in Australia. Virat needs 198 runs to reach the same milestone.
