Team India vice-captain Shubman Gill offered fans a glimpse into his off-field personality during a light-hearted rapid-fire chat shared by Sony Sports Network on X. When asked which teammate he would want to bat with for the rest of his life, Gill surprised many by overlooking Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Shubman Gill returned to India’s T20I side during the Asia Cup 2025 opener against the UAE in Dubai on Wednesday, September 10. The 26-year-old scored an unbeaten 20 runs off just nine balls as India comfortably chased a modest 58-run target to secure a nine-wicket victory with 93 balls to spare.

On Friday, September 12, Sony Sports shared a video on Instagram showcasing Shubman Gill’s preparations for the ongoing Asia Cup. The India vice-captain revealed that he carries nine bats for the tournament to stay ready for any situation.

During a rapid-fire round, Gill was also asked which teammate he would choose to bat with for the rest of his life. He named Abhishek Sharma, saying it would be the easiest choice from the current squad.

"Let's say from this current team it will be easier. Abhishek," Gill stated.

When asked which skill he would like to borrow from another player, Shubman Gill picked AB de Villiers’ scoop shot. De Villiers is known for his ability to play shots all around the ground.

The Punjab batter also named former England cricketer James Anderson as the toughest bowler he has faced in his career. Gill described India’s Champions Trophy 2025 victory as a special moment in his career.

Off the field, the opening batter said he enjoys cheat meals like pancakes, butter chicken, and daal makhni. He also revealed that he listens to a personal playlist before every match to get into the right mindset.

On an Apple Music YouTube podcast, Gill shared the players he idolized. He said that Sachin Tendulkar was his first inspiration. Gill also stated that Virat Kohli’s relentless passion and dedication on the field greatly influenced him.

“I have had two idols. The first one was Sachin. He was my dad's favorite, and I got into cricket because of him. I loved watching Virat bhai, Virat Kohli, how he used to go about his business and just the sheer passion that he had for the game and the real hunger," Gill stated.

Gill will be next seen in action when the Men in Blue take on Pakistan, led by Salman Ali Agha, in their second Asia Cup 2025 clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 14. Notably, both teams secured victories in their opening matches of the eight-team tournament.
