Virat Kohli, on Monday (April 7), added yet another feather to his already illustrious cap. The Indian batting superstar became the first-ever Indian player to reach 13000 runs in T20s.

He reached an incredible milestone during the game between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium. The former India and RCB captain needed 17 runs to reach the 13000-run mark in the shortest format of the game.

He entered the 13000-run club in style by hitting Trent Boult for a four in the third over of RCB's innings. Virat Kohli not only became the first-ever India to achieve the incredible feat but also became the second-fastest to score 13000 runs in T20s.

Only West Indies legend Chris Gayle has scored 13000 T20 runs faster than Virat Kohli. While Gayle achieved the milestone in 381 innings, Virat Kohli did it in 386 innings.

Fastest to 13000 T20 runs:

  • Chris Gayle – 381 innings from 389 matches (against Barbados Tridents – September 2019)
  • Virat Kohli – 386 innings from 403 matches – (against Mumbai Indians – April 2025)
  • Alex Hales – 474 innings from 478 matches (against Fortune Barishal – January 2025)
  • Shoaib Malik – 487 innings from 526 matches (against Rangpur Riders – January 2024)
  • Kieron Pollard – 594 innings from 668 matches (against Northern Superchargers – July 2024)

Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar's fifties power RCB to big total:

After getting the start, Virat Kohli capitalized on it and scored a fine fifty. RCB captain Rajat Patidar also scored a fifty as he and Kohli helped their team post a big total of 221/5.

Asked to bat first, RCB were off to a shaky start with Phil Salt departing for four runs in the very first over. However, Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the ship with a 91-run stand for the second wicket. During the partnership, Kohli also completed his fifty in just 29 deliveries.

In the 15th over, Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya dismissed Kohli for 67 and Liam Livingstone for a duck to put RCB in a spot of bother. However, Patidar hit a 25-ball fifty to put his team on the front foot once again. Jitesh Sharma also played an important cameo of 40 not out from just 19 balls.
