Meanwhile, the Indian team left London for Leeds on Tuesday (June 17) for the first Test. The series opener is scheduled to be played at Headingley from June 20. The series marks the beginning of a new journey for Indian cricket.

With the likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin retiring from Tests, the transition phase in the Test team is pretty much underway. With a new captain in charge, the Indian team will look to start their journey on a good note. The upcoming series will also be India's first assignment of the new WTC cycle, and they will be keen to get off to a good start.

A memorable IPL campaign for Virat Kohli

Talking about Virat Kohli, the batting stalwart was in India for the last couple of months for IPL 2025. He enjoyed another stellar campaign with the bat and finally managed to win his first IPL trophy after 17 years. The right-handed batsman led the charge with the bat as Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Punjab Kings in the final to win their first IPL title.

Kohli finished the tournament as RCB's highest run-scorer. In 15 games, he scored 657 runs with the help of eight fifties. Only Sai Sudharsan and Suryakumar Yadav scored more runs than him. Midway through the IPL campaign, he also announced his retirement from Tests. Kohli had already retired from T20Is last year and is now available for selection only in the 50-over format.
