Former India batter Robin Uthappa has criticized 'Mr. Fix-It' amid reports of dressing room unrest during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series. Robin Uthappa accused Mr. Fix-It of prioritizing personal ambitions over team unity during a crucial phase of transition for Indian cricket.
The India team is trailing 1-2 in the five-match series against Australia, heading into the final game in Sydney. There have been reports of unrest in the dressing room. Tensions reportedly began when Rohit missed the opening Test in Perth, with some players eyeing the captaincy of the red-ball side.
As per an Indian Express report, several senior players are said to have discussed their ambitions to take on the role, particularly a senior member who is positioning himself as a 'Mr. Fix-It.' He is not convinced that the youngsters are ready for leadership roles and is actively seeking an interim captaincy.
Mr. Fix-It Is an Absolute Disappointment of a Human Being - Robin Uthappa
In a video shared on Instagram, Robin Uthappa called 'Mr. Fix-It' is an absolute disappointment of a human being, adding that it’s shameful to push a personal agenda. He emphasized that one should put the team first and do whatever is necessary to support it during tough times.
"Whoever Mr. Fix-it is, I think, is an absolute disappointment of a human being at this point in time. I think whoever that is, he should be really ashamed of himself at a time when you need to keep the team together to progress a personal agenda is completely, in my opinion, pathetic," Uthappa said in a video posted on his Instagram.
"You don't put yourself ahead of your team irrespective of how bad things are. At that point in time, you actually double down on your team. You double down and say I'll do whatever is required at that point in time," he added.
Whoever This Person Is Has to Be Named and Shamed - Robin Uthappa
Robin Uthappa stated that regardless of their seniority, the person needs to be called out for their actions. Uthappa emphasized that the team's focus should be on unity, not personal agendas, and insisted that this 'childishness' must stop immediately, especially when the team is in a crucial phase.
"Whoever this person is, whether it's a senior, not a senior, it does not matter, has to be named and shamed. This has to stop. This level of childishness and personal agenda being driven forward at a time when the team needs more unity has to stop," Uthappa added.
