As the team returned on Wednesday, thousands of excited fans gathered outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to welcome the champions. The overwhelming crowd, eager to catch a glimpse of the players, led to a stampede that turned fatal.

Eleven people lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries in the chaos that unfolded outside the stadium. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah later revealed that the stadium was vastly overcrowded. The venue could handle around 35,000 people, but 2 to 3 lakh fans had turned up.

Is Virat Kohli Named in the FIRs Filed Over the Bengaluru Stampede?

H.M. Venkatesh filed a complaint holding Virat Kohli accountable for the stampede during RCB's IPL victory celebrations. He urged authorities to name the 36-year-old batter as the primary accused in the tragic incident.

Police informed Venkatesh that a First Information Report (FIR) had already been registered regarding the stampede, but assured him that his complaint would still be reviewed. No separate FIR has been filed based on his submission.

Meanwhile, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident. All four have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody by the 14th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court.

These include Nikhil Sosale, Head of Marketing and Revenue for RCB; Sunil Mathew, Vice President of Business Affairs; Kiran Kumar, Senior Event Manager; and Sumanth, Ticketing Operations Lead at DNA Entertainment Private Limited.

Virat Kohli Showcased Exceptional Batting Form in IPL 2025

Virat Kohli delivered outstanding performances throughout the tournament in 2025. Kohli amassed 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71, including eight half-centuries.

The Delhi-born cricketer remains the all-time leading run-scorer in the IPL. He has played 267 matches, scoring 8,661 runs at an average of 39.54 and a strike rate of 132.85. The right-handed batter has smashed 63 half-centuries and eight centuries.

RCB reached the finals three times before—in 2009, 2011, and 2016—but fell short each time. Kohli, the only player to remain with the same franchise since the league began, played pivotal roles in those campaigns as well.
