India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli is all set to join the Delhi team soon for the last round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the batter will be training with the state team on Tuesday (28th January) ahead of the game.

Virat Kohli will be playing his first game in the Ranji Trophy after 2012 as Delhi will be taking on Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium from January 30 to February 2. His availability was recently confirmed by the Delhi coach Sarandeep Singh a few days back.

Virat Kohli missed the last round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 due to neck issues

Kohli was supposed to play the last game of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, which was played from 23rd January. However, he ruled himself out of the game after he reported about the neck issues. The premier batter reportedly took an injection for pain in Australia and wasn't fit to play the match against Saurashtra.

Kohli's return to the Ranji Trophy comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it mandatory for all players to play domestic cricket. The governing body issued guidelines to contracted players after the team's poor performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, where they lost by a margin of 3-1.

Kohli, for the last few days, has been working with former India and RCB batting coach Sanjay Bangar at a training facility in Mumbai. There have been reports that the batter has been working on his backfoot game and wants to develop more range of shots ahead of the Test series against the England National Cricket Team, which will be played in June later this year.

Virat Kohli playing the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match will be a big confidence booster for him. The batter has been below par in the Tests since 2020 and also failed in the entire home season last year followed by the Test series against the Australia National Cricket Team down under.

Virat Kohli failed to score runs in home Tests against Bangladesh and New Zealand. He started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 on a high as he slammed a century in Perth. It seemed that he would set the stage on fire, especially with the way he started the series at the Optus Stadium.

But the demons of balls outside off came to haunt him. The batter got in a similar way in the rest of the 4 games and ended up scoring 190 runs. Following his poor effort with the bat, his place too came under scanner as the batter faced a lot of criticism for his poor batting.

Virat Kohli also has been named in the Indian squad for the ODI series against England National Cricket Team. The series will begin four days after the final round of the Ranji Trophy. If he performs well for Delhi, it will be a great boost for Team India, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner.
