Virat Kohli Set to Make a Comeback to the India ODI Squad
Virat Kohli is set to make his comeback to the Indian ODI squad for the first time since playing a key role in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The veteran batter last represented India in that title-winning campaign, which was the nation’s first ICC ODI trophy since their 2013 triumph in England.
During the 2025 Champions Trophy, Kohli finished as India’s second-highest run-getter with 218 runs in five innings at an impressive average of 54.50. The right-handed batter now plays only 50-over matches in international cricket after retiring from T20Is and Tests.
Kohli’s ODI future had become a subject of intense debate ahead of the squad selection for the upcoming Australia tour. Ajit Agarkar confirmed that Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not in the scheme of things for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Virat Kohli’s Record Against Australia in One-Day Internationals
The second and third ODIs of the upcoming series are set to take place on October 23 and 25 at the Adelaide Oval and Sydney Cricket Ground, respectively.
Kohli enters the series with an impressive record against Australia. He has scored 2,451 runs in 50 ODIs at an average of 54.46, including eight centuries and 15 fifties. In Australia, the batter has scored 1,327 runs from 29 matches at an average of 51.03, including five centuries and six fifties.
Kohli played his first ODI in Australia in 2012 during the Commonwealth Bank Series at the MCG. In a rain-affected match, Australia posted 216/5 in 32 overs, and India were bowled out for 151, losing by 65 runs via the D/L method. Kohli scored 31 runs off 34 balls with three boundaries.
