Ace Indian batter Virat Kohli is reportedly unavailable for selection for the white-ball games during India’s tour of South Africa next month. However, Virat Kohli will be part of the Indian National Cricket Team for the two-match Test series, according to the news reports.
The Men in Blue will tour South Africa for three T20Is, as well as three ODIs and two Tests. The series will commence with the T20I series, followed by the ODI and Test matches. The first T20I between India and South Africa is set to be played on December 10 in Durban.
Virat Kohli Has Informed The BCCI And Selectors – A Source
The national selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, is set to pick the team for all three formats in the coming days. As per The Indian Express, Virat Kohli has conveyed his decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take a break from T20Is and ODIs.
The report further added that the 35-year-old expressed his availability for red-ball cricket, making himself eligible for selection in the two Test matches during India’s tour of South Africa. Kohli will inform the BCCI about his return to limited-overs cricket at a later time.
“He (Kohli) has informed the BCCI and selectors that he needs a break from white-ball cricket and he will get back to them about when he wants to play white ball cricket next. At the moment he has informed the BCCI that he will be playing red-ball cricket, which means he is available for selection for the two Test matches in South Africa,” a source said, as quoted by The Indian Express.
Virat Kohli, presently on holiday in London, has opted for a break, considering his continuous cricket involvement in recent months. Kohli’s last break was in September before the World Cup, where he and Rohit Sharma were rested for the first two ODIs against Australia.
The upcoming Test series between India and South Africa includes matches at Centurion starting on Boxing Day and Cape Town for the second and final Test.
