Virat Kohli has openly questioned the BCCI’s growing workload management policy for young Indian cricketers, stating that players should first discover their physical and mental limits before thinking about slowing down.

Kohli's remarks come at a time when workload management has become one of the biggest talking points in Indian cricket, especially with the board closely monitoring the fitness and schedules of multi-format stars.

Virat Kohli totally against BCCI’s workload management policy for youngsters

Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit Powered by Leaders at the Centre for Sports Excellence in Bengaluru on Tuesday (May 19), Kohli made it clear that he does not fully agree with restricting young players too early in their careers.

The batting great stressed that excessive workload management during developmental years could prevent players from reaching their maximum potential.

“I don't really believe in managing workload when you're still in the thick of your journey and trying to grow,” Kohli said.

“First, you have to understand your maximum limit. Only then do you understand balance - how much you can truly take before you begin to taper it down. But if you start managing too early, you may never reach your full potential,” he added.

Virat Kohli dominates IPL 2026

Kohli is unarguably the fittest cricketer in the world, and maintaining top shape has helped him dominate IPL 2026. So far, Kohli has had another outstanding IPL campaign with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The veteran opener has once again been the backbone of RCB’s batting lineup and currently remains among the leading run-scorers of IPL 2026.

In 13 matches this season, Virat Kohli has smashed 542 runs at an average of 54.20 and a strike rate of 164.74. His campaign includes one century and four half-centuries, while he has already struck 57 fours and 21 sixes.

What has stood out most this season is Kohli’s tempo. Traditionally viewed as an anchor batter in T20 cricket, he has played with far more attacking intent throughout IPL 2026, regularly taking down powerplay bowling attacks while still maintaining consistency.

RCB dominating IPL 2026

Virat Kohli’s form has played a massive role in RCB’s dominance this season. Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru are currently sitting at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 18 points from 13 matches and a superb net run rate of 1.065.

RCB have won nine of their 13 matches so far and head into the playoffs as one of the strongest title contenders.

The Bengaluru-based franchise has looked far more balanced compared to previous seasons. Their batting unit has consistently delivered, while the bowling attack has also stepped up during crucial phases of matches. They are favorites to finish in the top 2 and will get two bites at the cherry.
