Shocking revelations were made. Virat Kohli was all set to be offered India's red-ball captaincy midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy; however, by the end of the series, the veteran's position in the side was questioned by the Indian management.
Virat Kohli last featured for India in the longest format of the game back in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy of December 2024. The Test series marked Australia's long-awaited reclamation of the trophy from the Indian side, who maintained a winning streak until then.
Australia dominated the home series, winning it by a 3-1 margin, though India started it off with a first Test victory. Jasprit Bumrah was India's greatest performer in the series; however, the Indian batters struggled under the bouncy tracks of Australia.
Virat Kohli was assured of Test captaincy in the previous Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The veteran Indian batter, who had lost his touch in red-ball cricket over the last few years after facing a serious dip in his batting average, rekindled his form in the series opener at Perth with a spectacular hundred. However, after that, Kohli failed to even reach the smaller milestone of a half-century in any of the remaining 9 innings.
However, since Rohit Sharma's form had dipped to a further low, with his average going below just 10 in the series, Virat Kohli was considered to be handed the captaincy of the Indian team.
RevSprotz reporter Rohit Juglan has reported that after losing the Adelaide Day and Night Test, Indian management informed Kohli that he was in the scheme of things for being reappointed as the Indian red-ball skipper.
However, until the end of the series, the same Indian management posed a huge doubt on his retention in the Indian squad for the upcoming Tests. Virat, however, announced his retirement just before India was about to announce the Test squad for the England series in the new WTC cycle of 2025-27.
Following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy disaster, it was the first time India could not enter the finals of the ICC World Test Championship after being the runners-up on two previous occasions in 2021 and 2023.
Virat Kohli returns to play for India after a long absence of 8 months
Ending the long wait of Indian spectators, their icon, Virat Kohli, returns in Indian colours after a long gap of 8 months. His last match for Team India was the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Though Kohli was scheduled to play in the ODI series against Bangladesh back in August, the series was postponed by a year after considering the current political tension between the two neighbouring nations. This further delayed the return of the white-ball great.
Currently, Kohli is the second-highest run-getter in ODI cricket, only behind the great Sachin Tendulkar; however, with 51 hundreds, Kohli has surpassed Sachin for the record number of One-day international hundreds. Despite all these records, his stay on the Indian side was thrown into consideration.
However, the Indian selectors have backed his as well as fellow teammate Rohit Sharma's return to the Indian side; however, the two greats will have to play under the leadership of youngster Shubman Gill, the newly appointed Indian skipper.
Virat Kohli's RCB fans troll LSG after the latter triggers controversy with an X post
The Lucknow Super Giants hold a recent rivalry against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the LSG side has tried to reignite the rivalry out of nowhere with a controversial tweet on their social media page.
The post includes a picture of pacer Avesh Khan celebrating with the infamous helmet-throwing gesture back in 2023.
However, RCB fans have also stood behind their franchise, especially after their franchise rewarded them for their loyalty with a maiden IPL trophy win in the previous season of 2025. They have not only trolled the LSG side but also called them a 'trophyless side,' which RCB no longer is.
