The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to hold discussions with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their future roles in the team. According to the Hindustan Times, the selection committee has doubts about Rohit’s fitness and consistency lasting until the next ODI World Cup.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is after guiding India to the T20 World Cup 2024 victory. They announced their retirement from red-ball cricket ahead of the England series. The duo is active only in ODIs and is expected to be seen next in action during the upcoming series in Australia in October.
BCCI to Hold Talks with Rohit and Virat on Their Future
According to the Hindustan Times, the BCCI will hold talks with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their future in ODIs. Both players have already retired from T20Is and Tests, leaving the 50-over format as their only international commitment.
The selection committee and head coach Gautam Gambhir are unsure whether Rohit’s form and fitness can carry on until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Selectors want to assess the mental and physical preparedness of both veterans before making a call.
"Rohit and Virat Kohli continuing to play ODIs – both have retired from T20Is and Tests – is likely to be decided only after the selectors have spoken to both about their physical and mental preparedness," the report read.
