Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has spoken up on Virat Kohli's dismissal in the second innings of the 1st Test between India and Bangladesh in Chennai. Jadeja also guessed the reason behind Kohli's reluctance to take the DRS despite the ball hitting the bat.

Virat Kohli was out for 17 off 37 balls in the last session of Day 2. The veteran was batting well till that point and it looked like he would go on to make a big one. However, he was dismissed by the offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz towards the end of the day.

Mehidy bowled a straight ball on the stumps and Kohli looked to flick it away towards midwicket. But he missed it and was hit on the pad right in front of the stumps. The umpire took his time and ultimately, ruled him out.

Kohli consulted his batting partner Shubman Gill and then decided not to review the decision. However, to everyone's shock, the ultra-edge detected a spike as the ball went past the bat but it was too late till then.

Ajay Jadeja breaks silence on Virat Kohli's dismissal

Ajay Jadeja was discussing Colors Cineplex where he was asked about Virat Kohli's disappointing dismissal on Day 2. Jadeja reckoned that Kohli hardly makes a mistake after the first 20-25 balls but played across the line here. He further reasoned that it is just the start of the season and he might be rusty.

"Virat Kohli getting out was probably the biggest surprise because you rarely see him making a mistake after playing 20-25 balls in such conditions. He made a mistake there, played slightly across. He is also human. Everyone makes mistakes. This is the start of the season maybe," Jadeja said.

Further, Jadeja expressed his surprise for not realizing an inside edge before the ball hit the pad. The former India batter further claimed his mind was somewhere else which is the reason why he did not get to know about the inside edge.

"Forget everything else, when he himself didn't come to know that the ball had hit his bat, where the ball is going, is a far-away thought. Maybe the mind was somewhere else. If you see the ball, it neither spun nor kept low, but at times, you make a mistake even against straight balls, which is rare," he opined.

Virat Kohli's first innings score

Virat Kohli's dismissal was a huge disappointment as he was expected to play a big innings this time. He was dismissed for just 6 runs in the first innings by fast bowler Hasan Mahmud.

The 35-year-old is returning to red-ball cricket after a long time. He did not play India's last Test series against England due to personal reasons. However, India did not feel his absence and went on to win that series 4-1.

Kohli will be crucial to India's chances in the upcoming Test season. After the series against Bangladesh, India will play a three-match Test series against New Zealand before traveling to Australia for five Tests.
