Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik has revealed that Virat Kohli had net sessions with India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate in London before the beginning of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

Kohli was disappointing in the first Test at Chennai where he registered scores of 6 and 17 across both the innings. His poor batting form raised speculations about whether he is out of touch for the ongoing Test series or not.

The 35-year-old last played a Test match earlier in the year against South Africa. He missed the England series at home due to personal reasons. However, India did not feel his absence as they went on to win the series 4-1.

Virat Kohli had "three good net sessions in the UK with Ryan ten Doeschate" - Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik was discussing Virat Kohli's current form against spin with Harsha Bhogle on Cricbuzz. During the chat, Karthik revealed that Kohli did not come into the series out of touch but had good net sessions with Ryan ten Doeschate coming into this series.

"He (Virat Kohli) did have three good net sessions in the UK with Ryan ten Doeschate. So it's not like he's not been completely batting," Karthik said on Cricbuzz Chatter.

Ryan ten Doeschate is India's newly appointed assistant coach. He was appointed into the role on the recommendation of India's head coach Gautam Gambhir.

When did Virat Kohli arrive for the Bangladesh series?

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli arrived in Chennai a week ahead of the first Test match of the series. He flew in straight from London where he now lives with his family. Kohli also took part in the preparation camp for the players organized by the team management.

While Kohli arrived from London, other players also arrived in time to take part in the camp to prepare for a long red-ball season ahead. After the series against Bangladesh, India will play a three-match Test series against New Zealand at home.

But it will be the series against Australia that will truly test the Indian team. The Men in Blue will play a five-match Test series against Australia in an away series.

Virat Kohli's recent struggles

Virat Kohli's form will be a cause of concern for India as they hope for their talismanic batter to be amongst the runs as quickly as possible. However, the team management is confident that Kohli will return to form soon and is positive about it.

Kohli's recent struggles against spin are quite uncharacteristic given that he has mostly dominated such type of bowling throughout his career. In the last three years, he has scored 499 runs at an average of 27.72 against spinners and has been dismissed 18 times by them.

In the Chennai Test, he was trapped in front by the offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz for just 17 in the second innings of the match. Kohli was caught behind for 6 off the bowling of Hasan Mahmud in the first innings.
