Virender Sehwag Names A Player Who Can Lead Chennai Super Kings In Future And He's Not Ravindra Jadeja

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has named a player who can lead Chennai Super Kings in the future and it is not Ravindra Jadeja. According to Sehwag, Ruturaj Gaikwad may have the capability to become the captain of Chennai Super Kings in the future. Sehwag’s opinion comes after he was impressed by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s incredible half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021.

Gaikwad smashed 75 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad as Chennai Super Kings won the match by 7 wickets. While chasing 172, Gaikwad gave a strong opening start to CSK with a 129-run partnership with Faf du Plessis, who hit 56 runs in the match. Gaikwad also won the player of the match award for his 75-run knock.

Ruturaj Gaikwad Has the Capability To Become CSK Skipper: Virender Sehwag

While speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag mentioned that Ruturaj Gaikwad may have to capability to lead Chennai Super Kings if he stays in the team for the next couple of years.

“I haven’t met him, nor seen Ruturaj Gaikwad play personally, but if he stays at CSK for the next couple of years, he may have the capability to become the captain,” Virender Sehwag said.

The former India opener Virender Sehwag also highlighted Gaikwad’s qualities which makes him a good option to lead Chennai Super Kings in the future.

“I haven’t spent time with him personally. But he bats with a calm head, he knows when to take risks and how to bat at each moment. He doesn’t run away from responsibility, nor does he throw away his wicket.

“Looking at all these qualities, I feel if he stays at CSK and continues there, he may have the capability. Does he captain in domestic cricket? If yes, then his chances of leading CSK will surely increase,” Virender Sehwag further said.

Ruturaj Gaikwad joined Chennai Super Kings last season. The right-handed batsman suffered in the initial games of IPL 2021 but has shown great form in the last few games.

So far, he has scored 192 runs in 6 innings at an average of 32. He has also hit 2 fifties in IPL 2021- 75 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad and 64 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. He has also given great support to Faf du Plessis at the opening slot.

Chennai Super Kings have won 5 matches out of 6 so far in IPL 2021. MS Dhoni and boys have won 5 games in a row and have emerged as a strong team in IPL 2021. CSK holds the top spot in IPL 2021 points table with 10 points. They will next face Mumbai Indians on May 1 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
