Virender Sehwag was highly impressed with the astonishing batting by Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah in India vs England 2nd Test match at Lord’s. The former Indian cricketer also praised Mohammed Shami for a cover drive off Moeen Ali’s delivery during the match. Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah accounted for an 89-run partnership for the 9th wicket, taking India to 298-8 and setting a mighty 272-run total for England.

At the start of Day 5, India struggled at 298/8. Mohammed Shami and Jaspirt Bumrah emerged to India’s rescue smashing unbeaten 56 and 34 runs respectively. Both the pacers successfully faced the English bowling attack, restraining them from any chance of getting a wicket. Their batting changed the scenario of the game in India’s favour, as the Virat Kohli and boys earned a dominating total to defend in the final innings.

Virender Sehwag Impressed With Mohammed Shami’s Cover Drive

While batting, Mohammed Shami played few shots that impressed commentator Virender Sehwag. One of his shots against Moeen Ali was a superb cover drive that went straight to the boundary. Reacting to the shot, Virender Sehwag said that even Virat Kohli could not play such a shot in the match.

“Look at that cover drive. Even Virat Kohli could not play that shot as well as he (Mohammed Shami) did. Brilliant batting and partnership between the two. I think the moment Robinson was taken out of the attack, both became very comfortable.

“When Sam Curran and Moeen Ali came on, it never looked like England would be able to get them out. The defence was correct, the shots were correct. Everything was in India’s favour,” Sehwag said during the commentary on Star Sports Network.

Sehwag also felt that Virat Kohli should have declared the innings two overs before the lunch and expressed his desire to win the game.

“Had I been the captain, I would have made England play two overs before lunch. India should show the mindset that they want a result. They should convey the message that ‘we have declared because we want a result. Will they go for the chase? If yes, then we have a chance to win as well. So, we are playing for a result, now you decide what you are going for,” Sehwag further said.
