Legendary Indian batter Virender Sehwag has yet again launched a fresh attack on Rohit Sharma over his persistent poor form in IPL 2025. Rohit Sharma, the man who led Mumbai Indians to five glorious IPL titles, is now facing one of the toughest phases of his career.
The Hitman’s scores in the ongoing IPL 2025 tell the whole story: 0, 8, 13, 17, 18, 28, and now 26 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The seasoned opener, who already retired from T20I cricket last year, played as an Impact Player, but he yet again failed to play an impactful knock.
However, Mumbai Indians managed to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by four wickets in the 33rd IPL 2025 match at the Wankhede Stadium on April 17. On the other hand, Rohit has managed just 82 runs at an average of 13.66 in his six innings, and this number is shocking for a player of his class.
Virender Sehwag slams Rohit Sharma’s struggles in IPL 2025 with a blunt message
Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag, who is known for his fearless opinions, fired a strong warning, hinting that Rohit’s IPL legacy is at risk.
The former Indian opener also mentioned that Rohit’s IPL form over the years hasn’t been very strong. He also noted that Rohit changed his approach after becoming India’s captain, and it is now affecting his performances and his legacy.
Virender Sehwag was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “If you look at Rohit's IPL numbers in the last 10 years, he scored more than 400 runs only once. So, he is not the kind of player who thinks that I need to score 500 or 700 runs. If he thinks, he might.
When he became the Indian captain, he said that he wanted to be the player who wants to cash in on the power play and take the chances, so he wanted to make all the sacrifices alone, but he is not considering the fact that at the end of the day, when he is not performing, it is your legacy that is getting hurt.”

Sehwag even suggested that maybe it’s time for the Indian captain to seriously think about stepping away from the shorter format of the game.
He added, “Ab uska jaane ka time aa gaya (It's already time for him to retire), and before retiring, you would want to give fans something to remember you by, and not moments that force them to think, why are they not dropping him?”
He also pointed out that Rohit keeps getting out while playing the pull shot against short balls. Sehwag feels Rohit should avoid this shot until he settles and focuses on playing simple, steady cricket. He believes Rohit needs to spend more time at the crease, take it slow, and give himself a proper chance to settle.
Sehwag feels Rohit Sharma needs someone who can show him a mirror
Sehwag also mentioned how, in his playing days, senior players like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sourav Ganguly would guide him. He signed off by saying, “Rohit Sharma should decide that in one inning, he will not play the pull shot at all. But who will explain it to him? There should be someone telling him to play normal cricket.”
