Former West Indies cricketer Viv Richards has revealed his opinion on the ongoing controversy between Chris Gayle and Curtly Ambrose regarding the former’s selection in the T20 Worldcup. Viv Richards who is one of the best ever to have played the game did the right thing by moving into the respect side of the conversation.

Chris Gayle hasn’t been very consistent for his international side or in the IPL recently and he has been given continuous runs despite his poor form. He was named in the squad for the T20 Worldcup as well but there has been some criticism over his selection from the former selectors. Gayle has been the boss of T20 cricket over the years but his age will be something that could be argued about still.

Viv Richards Feels Chris Gayle Should Respect The Opinion of Curtly Ambrose

Viv Richards mentioned that Gayle should know that he is accustomed to facing criticisms at international levels and should respect the opinion of former cricketer Curtly Ambrose. He felt that Chris Gayle has the same reputation in international cricket that Curtly Ambrose has also earned.

“It’s Curtly’s honest opinion and he is entitled to that and he is just as much as an achiever as Chris Gayle at the highest level and you should have respect for that. So, when you hear it’s coming from an individual who would have also been an achiever and being a legend in the department of the sport we would have represented, you must have respect for that too,” Viv Richards mentioned.

Viv Richards Reveals What Chris Gayle Should Be Doing

Viv Richards mentioned that the best positive way for the controversy from the aspect of Chris Gayle is to look forward to achieving things rather than worrying about criticism. He rated Chris Gayle as a good player still and advice him to take the motivating side of the controversy.

“If I was Chris, the best positive way I could look at it would be to set my mind on what I would like to accomplish because it is not just Curtly. There are so many folks who would have had their criticisms about Chris being in the team. Chris is still a pretty good player in my opinion and at this point, that particular criticism must be used as a motivator,”  He added.
