VVS Laxman set for bigger role in Indian Cricket
Speaking on the India Today Podcast, senior Indian journalist and well-known TV anchor Rajdeep Sardesai revealed that there is a buzz in cricket circles that VVS Laxman is being considered for a very important and massive responsibility in the Indian cricket setup.
However, the author has not shared any details about the exact position but hinted that there are two major possibilities being discussed. One possibility is that Laxman could become the chairman of selectors as Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as the chief selector is set to end in September 2026.
Another possibility is the white-ball coaching role. It would be interesting to see whether the NCA head will be promoted as the white-ball head coach of the Indian cricket team, as he has been widely tipped for the red-ball coach position because of the team’s struggles in Test cricket.

Sardesai also suggested that some changes could take place in Indian cricket around September. This is what the buzz is about: that he is, of course, the head of the Centre of Excellence, but he is now being groomed for a big task in Indian cricket.
I don't know what it is. Is it the chairman of selectors? Is it a white-ball coach? Lots of speculation. But VVS Laxman is going to get a very, very important assignment come September when there will be some kind of churning.”

Gautam Gambhir’s tough run puts coaching future in doubt, as BCCI considers VVS Laxman
Well, the BCCI could hand over the white-ball coaching to Laxman after the Indian team hit a new low under Gautam Gambhir. Under Gambhir, India went without an ODI win in a calendar year for the first time since 1979 and also lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka after 27 years.
In Test cricket, India suffered several major setbacks, including their first home Test series loss to New Zealand, a home Test whitewash after 25 years, and a Test series defeat against Australia after 10 years. They also lost home Test matches and series against South Africa after long gaps.
India also lost their first-ever home ODI series to New Zealand. In T20Is, India recorded their first-ever defeat and series loss against Ireland, followed by another embarrassing series loss to England. Given those results, Gambhir’s position is certainly under the scanner, and Laxman can take either of his positions – either the Test or the white-ball coaching role.
