The Indian cricket team's return to Delhi has been delayed following their T20 World Cup victory due to Hurricane Beryl's threat in Barbados. The Rohit Sharma-led team was initially set to depart Barbados by 6 PM local time on Tuesday, but their travel plans have been disrupted by worsening weather conditions.

The Men in Blue secured a seven-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final match in Barbados on June 29. India ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. The Indian cricket team remained stranded in Barbados following their victory before they could depart.

They Won't Land In Delhi Before 4-5 AM Thursday - Vikrant Gupta

According to India Today's Vikrant Gupta, the Indian cricket team's return to Delhi has been delayed further. Vikrant Gupta stated that the special flight carrying the team is now scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 6 AM on Thursday.

"The Indian team's departure from Barbados and arrival into Delhi has further been delayed. Will keep you posted - right now it looks like they won't land in Delhi before 4-5 am Thursday morning," Vikrant Gupta wrote on ‘X’, formerly Twitter.

Journalists who were stranded in Barbados will be returning with the Indian team, thanks to the efforts of BCCI and Jay Shah. Sports presenter Nikhil Naz mentioned that they are finally leaving Barbados on a chartered flight with the Indian team, aiming to reach Delhi on Thursday, July 4.

“Finally getting out of Barbados tonight. Thanks to the efforts of @BCCI & @JayShah to put us on the chartered flight with the Indian team back to Delhi. It was proving to be an impossible task to get an exit out of the island after #HurricaneBeryl. The World Cup champions should now touch down in Delhi by 4 am on Thursday, 4th of July,” sports presenter Nikhil Naz wrote.

All Clear Is Given By The Officials - Airport Official

The BCCI has been working to organize a charter flight to bring the players back home, but they've faced challenges because Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) in Barbados is currently closed (Tuesday morning local time). The airport is expected to reopen later today, with air traffic expected to resume.

Local media reported that Grantley Adams International Airport remained unaffected during Hurricane Beryl's passage. After the storm passed and Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams gave the all-clear on Monday afternoon, airport teams assessed minimal damages to the facility.

"We just need to make sure that when we do our assessment, everything is clean and safe so that we can welcome our passengers because, as you can appreciate, after the all-clear is given by the officials, which it has, then our team needs to come in and do their assessment so that everyone else can have their operations run as smoothly as possible," an airport official told Barbados Today.

The Indian team endured a four-day wait in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. The BCCI organized a special Air India Cricket 24 World Champion flight to bring stranded Indian cricketers and journalists home. According to Cricbuzz, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited the team to New Delhi upon their arrival.
