Wankhede’s legacy under threat?: MCA plans huge 1,00,000-seater stadium in Navi Mumbai
The city of Mumbai is planning to build a new cricket stadium with the MCA under the initiative of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Dev Fadnavis. This development will be a landmark in terms of the cricket stadium, which might be built for a huge audience of nearly 100,000 people.
Mumbai is the central hub for cricket in India, as many legendary cricketers have made it to the Indian team as well over the years. Under the Mumbai Cricket Association, legendary players like Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma have made India proud over the years.
In the last two T20 World Cups, Rohit Sharma, Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav and also Yashasvi Jaiswal have played in the past two seasons. During the felicitation event, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis raised the proposal.
MCA to build a revolutionary stadium in the MMR region
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has been planning to build a massive cricket stadium in Amane village in Thane District. As learned by TOI reporter Gaurav Gupta, it will be a state-of-the-art facility with a huge capacity of nearly 100,000 people.
“The MCA is looking to build a massive 1 lakh capacity cricket stadium, spread on around 50 acres of open land in Amane, which is 26km off Thane, and 68km from the Wankhede Stadium. The MCA has filled the open tender floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to acquire the land parcel. The association is waiting for approval from the Maharashtra govt,” a source said.
The tender has been filed, and it is most likely that the MCA is awaiting the government's decision on this, and the project would be under the supervision of Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Maharashtra Deputy CM proposed a vision from ex-MCA president Amol Kale
On Friday, before the start of the IPL 2026, in the felicitation program of the four Maharashtrian players who were part of the two World Cup-winning squads, the deputy CM even requested that CM Eknath Shinde consider building the stadium.
“This stadium was a dream project of MCA president Amol Kale (who passed away on June 10 in New York). It will have all the modern amenities, including two grounds on which first-class matches can be played,” the source added.
Incidentally, the former MCA President who passed away last year was a very close friend of the Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
MCA honoured staff members alongside the T20 World Cup-winning cricketers from Maharashtra
The MCA has honoured all the associated staff members of the Indian team who were part of the two World Cup wins. The TOI reports further confirmed that India's bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, who was in the World Cup squad, will also get a portion of the INR 11 crore award finalized for the World Cup-winning players.
This is a revolutionary step by the MCA to honour the efforts of the staff members who usually have an equal impact on the success of teams in national and international tournaments.
While Mhambrey will be receiving a whopping amount of INR 75 lakhs for his services, the masseur Arun Kanade will also get 25 lakhs for his services. The four players would receive a reward of INR 2.5 crore.
