Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Venkatesh Iyer is looking forward to learning from India’s new head coach Rahul Dravid. Iyer was the revelation of IPL 2021 and broke into the KKR team with his power-hitting spree against the best bowlers in the world.

As a result, Iyer was named in the 17-member squad announced by the BCCI for India’s T20I series against New Zealand.

Iyer, who is likely to make his international debut against New Zealand in the first T20I, said that he is coming into the series with a blank mind and will take things as it happens to fold up.

I just want to learn whatever I can. Rahul (Dravid) Sir, being the legend that he is, he has lots to share. It’s just about how we will go and pick things depending on what’s asked of us or what the situation is. I have come with a blank mind, and whatever happens, I will take it in that manner,” Iyer told BCCI in an interview.

Iyer scored 370 runs from 10 innings in the second phase of IPL 2021 at the strike rate of 128.41.

His fearless batting helped him score four half-centuries in the tournament and also pushed KKR in the IPL final.

The 26-year-old lanky batter said that he spoke with Rohit Sharma, India’s T20I skipper for the New Zealand series, and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant after coming in the Indian camp.

I spoke with the captain and coach, and I had a word with Rishabh as well. They were very welcoming and gave me a lot of confidence, and gave a little pep talk on how to go about things.

“It feels good when established players are doing good for the country (talk to you). Especially Rohit Sharma, being one of the best batters in the world, if he shares something with me, it is very special. It feels good talking to them,” Iyer said.

Iyer, who opened for KKR in IPL, has expressed his wish to bat anywhere in India’s batting line-up as per the requirement of the team.
