Just days after his appointment, former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis is reportedly set to step down as the Advisor of Cricket Affairs to PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi.

Last month, the legendary pacer met Naqvi before receiving the role that effectively made him the supremo of Pakistan cricket. He had also conducted a press conference with Naqvi shortly after his appointment.

According to reports, the PCB wanted to give Waqar Younis a role similar to that currently occupied by Robert Key, managing director at the ECB. After his appointment, the PCB had released a job advertisement for the same role as well.

At that time, reports stated that the advertisement was just a formality and that Waqar Younis' appointment was permanent. However, the Pakistani news outlet Cricket Pakistan has reported that the former cricketer is set to step down from the post, and the PCB plans to appoint someone else for the role.

The report stated that the Pakistan great has not been present at the office for several days. Waqar was reportedly frustrated over the lack of cooperation from other officials. The news outlet reported that some officials, including those from the International Cricket Department, have been reluctant to collaborate with Waqar.

Waqar Younis' decision not linked to Bangladesh loss:

The report also stated that Waqar Younis' decision to step down from the post is not linked to Pakistan's humiliating loss against Bangladesh in the recently concluded Rawalpindi Test. Bangladesh, on Sunday (August 25), registered a 10-wicket win to claim their first-ever Test victory over Pakistan.

In their first game since the humiliating exit from the T20 World Cup in June, Pakistan failed to impress. They did well with the bat in the first innings as they declared their innings for 448 for 6. However, their bowlers failed to do well as Bangladesh piled up 565 runs to take a big lead of 117 runs.

Pakistan started day five on 23 for 1 and the match looked destined to end in a draw. However, the hosts suffered an inexplicable collapse and lost all their wickets, scoring just 146 runs. Set a target of 30 runs, Bangladesh crossed the finishing line inside 7 overs.
