There is a discussion among experts about who should take over as India’s new Test captain. Many back Shubman Gill due to his leadership potential. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah, who captained during Rohit Sharma’s absence in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is also seen as a strong candidate.
Shreyas Iyer Included in India’s Squad for England Tour
Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are picked as wicketkeepers in the squad. Wasim Jaffer included four players Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Karun Nair, and Mohammed Shami, who missed previous red-ball tours. Notably, Thakur and Nair were recently selected for the India A team touring England.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who impressed with his batting during his debut series in Australia, was expected to fill the pace-bowling all-rounder role. He has also been named in the India A squad.
Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar are chosen as backup options for Ravindra Jadeja. The pace attack includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, with Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, or Akash Deep considered as possible reserves.

Team India's Tour of England to Begin on June 20
The India cricket team and head coach Gautam Gambhir are set to depart for England after the conclusion of IPL 2025. The much-anticipated five-match Test series will kick off on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.
It’s worth mentioning that the upcoming series is the beginning of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. The Men in Blue will be hoping to bounce back after missing the WTC 2025 final match.
India last won a Test series on English soil in 2007, under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid. During their most recent tour in 2021-22, the team managed to secure a 2-2 draw.
