Hitting six sixes in an over is one of the most difficult tasks in cricket. Only a handful of cricketers have managed to do it in competitive cricket so far. In international cricket, only a few players – Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, and Jaskaran Malhotra – have managed to achieve this incredible feat of hitting every ball of the over for a six.

If one includes the domestic tournaments too, there have been only 11 instances of a player hitting each ball of the over for a six. The stats are enough to show just how tough it is to hit six sixes in an over. Well, Afghanistan’s Sediqullah Atal has stunned the cricketing world by smashing not six by seven sixes in an over.

He became the second cricketer after India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad to hit seven sixes in a row in an over. Sediqullah Atal achieved the stunning milestone on Saturday (July 29) in the ongoing 2023 Kabul Premier League match between the Shaheen Hunters and the Abasin Defenders at the Ayobi Cricket Stadium in Kabul.

Sediqullah Atal was leading Shaheen Hunters and led his team from the very front by smashing 118 runs in just 56 balls. In the 19th over of the innings, he went berserk as he took spinner Amir Zazai to the cleaners. The spinner began by conceding a six on a no-ball before bowling five wides. It was followed by six straight sixes as Zazai conceded 48 runs in the over.

Sediqullah Atal equals Ruturaj Gaikwad’s feat:

Before Sediqullah Atal, India star Ruturaj Gaikwad had also achieved the feat of hitting seven sixes in an over. Ruturaj Gaikwad had hit Shiva Singh for seven sixes in an over in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy match between Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Gaikwad had gone on to play an unbeaten knock of 220 runs off just 159 balls.

Sediqullah Atal has now joined an elite list of players who have hit six sixes in an over in professional cricket. That list includes include Garry Sobers (1968), Ravi Shastri (1985), Herschelle Gibbs (2007), Yuvraj Singh (2007), Ross Whiteley (2017), Hazratullah Zazai (2018), Leo Carter (2020), Kieron Pollard (2021), Thisara Perera (2021), Jaskaran Malhotra (2021) and Gaikwad (2022). The overall record for most sixes in an over is in the name of former New Zealand captain Lee Germon, who hit eight sixes during a First-Class match in Wellington in the 1990 Shell Trophy.
