Australia’s prolific Test-match batsman Marnus Labuschagne has not been having the best time in the English county cricket for Glamorgan this season. Marnus Labuschagne, the number-three ranked Test batsman, has managed only 44 runs in four matches at a poor average of 8.80 – something that bodes not too well ahead of the Ashes series down under later this year. The right-handed batsman became a victim of the 45-year old Kent’s Darren Stevens, who earlier batted incredibly well.

Darren Stevens might not have won a Test cap for England; however, he is making the most of his chances at the domestic level, defying his age like only a few have so far. Stevens arrived at the crease when Kent found themselves at 80-5. The veteran lifted them to 307 from that point, bludgeoning 190 runs breezily. His 149-ball knock contained 15 fours and as many sixes as he stitched partnerships with the tailenders. He notably added 166 with Miguel Cummins, of which Cummins only got 1.

Kent struck twice after Stevens’ heist, with Matthew Quinn being the first to do it by dismissing David Llloyd for four in as many deliveries. Darren Stevens, who earlier became a victim of Marnus Labuschagne’s leg-spin, got his revenge by pinning him on the crease as his medium-pace bowling nipped back off the seam before hitting the pad. Labuschagne was unhappy with the decision and revealed to have exchanged some words with the umpire before walking back. Surprisingly, the veteran had got the Australia batsman’s wicket for the second time this season. At close, Glamorgan stabilized to reach 55/2.
