United States of America (USA) batter Aaron Jones smashed a monstrous six against Canada during the first match of the T20 World Cup 2024. Aaron Jones guided the United States of America to a thrilling victory in the World Cup opener at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, June 1 (local time).
Chasing 195 runs for victory, the home team lost the wicket of Steven Taylor for a duck in the first over. Kaleem Sana trapped Taylor in front of the stumps to provide an early breakthrough for Canada. The USA team managed to score 41 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first six overs during the run chase.
The United States was reduced to 42-2 in 6.3 overs as skipper Monank Patel was dismissed for 16 runs off 16 deliveries. Aaron Jones came to bat at No. 4 when the required run rate got high. Jones seemed to be in good touch with the bat and raced to 22 runs off just 14 deliveries in the high-scoring run chase.

In the fifth ball of the 11th over, Aaron Jones smashed Dillion Heyliger for a 103-meter six. The right-handed batter connected with a length delivery sweetly and sent it over the deep mid-wicket fence. The batter was delighted with his shot and posed for the cameras as he watched the ball sail away over the fence.

Aaron Jones Scores An Unbeaten 94 Runs In USA's Victory
Aaron Jones scored an outstanding 94 not out from just 40 deliveries, including four fours and 10 maximums. The middle-order batter helped the USA team chase down the target in 17.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. Notably, this was the USA's highest-ever run chase in T20Is in front of a packed house in Dallas.
Earlier, the USA opted to bowl first after winning the toss in the World Cup opener. Canada got off to a decent start by scoring 50 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 6 overs. Navneet Dhaliwal scored 61 runs off 44 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Nicholas Kirton amassed 51 off 31 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Wicketkeeper batter Shreyas Movva played a quickfire knock of 32 runs off 16 balls, including two boundaries and as many sixes. The Canada team posted a competitive total of 194 runs in 20 overs. Harmeet Singh conceded just 27 runs for one wicket in four overs. Ali Khan and Corey Anderson took one wicket each.

Aaron Jones was happy to contribute to his team's victory and win the Player of the Match award in the T20 World Cup opener against Canada. During the post-match presentation, Jones said that pressure situations motivate him to perform at his peak.
"I don't think it is easy to put it into words. Happy to get my team over the line. I thought anything under 200 is chaseable. We wanted to play aggressive cricket. I think I go through my process while I practice. To be honest, when my team is under pressure it gets the best out of me," Jones said.
